On April 28th, 2020, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued EBSA Disaster Relief Notice 2020-01, which extends COBRA grace periods to all plan participants.

Here is what you need to know:

1. This extension applies to both the COBRA election time frame as well as monthly COBRA premium payments.
2. The extensions are backdated to the date that President Donald Trump declared a national emergency, March 1, 2020.
3. The extension will continue 60 days from the date the national emergency is officially declared as over.
4. Flex Administrators, Inc. is prepared to accommodate these extensions and continue to provide excellent customer service to our COBRA members.

In accordance with EBSA Disaster Relief Notice 2020-01 we will reinstate participants COBRA coverage UPON THE PARTICIPANT’S REQUEST ONLY! We will not automatically be reinstating COBRA coverage. Also, COBRA terminations will still process based on the standard COBRA termination time frames unless an extension request is made directly to Flex Administrators, Inc.
